Hidden Valley, Calif., $39.5 million
It's bargain time. Last year this equestrian ranch (located north of Los Angeles in Hidden Valley) was listed for $50 million. This year, there's a new real estate broker representing the property, and the owner--cancer treatment clinic entrepreneur Dr. Bernard Salick--dropped the price by 20% to $39.5 million. The property is massive, with more than 92 acres, but the home itself seems modest by comparison. Although the square footage isn't disclosed, it's a rather plain-looking single-floor home. New York, N.Y., $37 million
Bob Guccione is better known as publisher of Penthouse magazine than as a painter and art collector. But Manhattan brokers say the architecture of his Upper East Side townhouse (two combined townhouses) is overwhelmed by all of the artwork. As one would expect, the 20,000-square-foot home has over-the-top features, such as a large Roman bath-style swimming pool, so it might not fit the tastes of all of the Forbes 400 members that have $37 million to spare. New York, N.Y., $35.33 million
Construction just finished in July on the Trump International Hotel & Tower penthouses, so Johnson & Johnson heiress Elizabeth "Libbet" Johnson is probably hoping to have better luck selling them quickly now. The property was initially listed as a single $62.3 million penthouse. Now that it's been divided up, the largest of the four apartments (10,070 square feet) makes our list, coming in at $35.3 million. (The second most expensive of the four is priced at $22.53 million.) Carrie Chiang of the Corcoran Group has the listing.
